Laptop choices

Looking at getting a new laptop, and am deciding between a Dell, Acer or Toshiba (do not like HP so it is not even in the running). I had a Acer in the past, and found the base of it would heat up and that was a concern. I am leaning towards the Toshiba, any suggestions? I am not looking at components (at the end of the day, they are all pretty much the same), just which brand would you suggest, and why. Cheers.

RE: Z71 suspension

I had a Z71 on a 1500, and now I have a 1500 without. The only difference that I found was the Z71 was a bit more stiffer (felt the bumps in the road). I liked the Z71 as it have better handling with the box was full of topsoil, however, the smoother ride now is also nice.

RE: Sunshine Coast (BC) Recommendations

Just south of Nanaimo is a campground called Living Forest, and it one of our favorite campgrounds on Vancouver Island. Here is the link: http://www.campingbc.com/

RE: Automatic transmission question...

Will towing in 3rd up a steep grade generate less heat as opposed to being in OD in tow/haul mode?

RE: So How's The Carbon Tax Working For Ya'

We saw the price of gas go up a couple of cents/liter, and propane for the trailer has gone up a bit, but like all things we complain and then get used to the change and carry on with life. I do not even think of it anymore when I fill up the truck. Kind of like paying for gas before pumping it. It took a few days to griping before we realized it was here to stay, so we now pay for gas prior to pumping. We adapt to the change, and before long we do not notice it. WRT the carbon tax, we are suppose to see it come back on our taxes when we file next year, so we'll see what happens then.

RE: tow haul mode

When I am towing, I use the Tow/Haul mode. It is that simple.

RE: using my Ford Escape as a TV

Rather then looking at the dry weight of a trailer, look at the GVWR of the trailer. And the tow rating. If the vehicle is rated for 3500 pounds, you need to subract the weight of you, your family and any gear in the vehicle from the tow rating. This can easily drop this 3500 pounds down to about 3100 pounds. And ideally, your trailer GVWR should be no more then 80% of this number. In my opinion, the Ford Escape is good for small tent trailers, and that it is. It does not have the wheel base for towing any travel trailer, nor was it meant to. A salesman will lie to you get a sale, and they should not be trusted. Unfortunate, but true. Do your homework, know your weights and tow safe. Please do not take this as me being rude, I am serious and trying to help.

RE: Replacing GM OEM hitch - what to get?

I switched out my OEM for a Putnam class V hitch. I do not need that much towing strength, but it is a beefier hitch and does the job just fine.

Who uses a synthetic oil in their truck?

Do you run a synthetic oil? Why do you use it as opposed to dino oil? How long between oil changes? Do you see a difference between synthetic oil and dino oil (performance wise)? Thanks. I am coming up to my first oil change in my truck and am on the fence between synthetic oil and dino oil, so I am curious what you all use.

RE: Replacing Hitch Receiver on Truck

I am curious about your weights. According to http://www.trailerlife.com/output.cfm?id=42175, your truck will have a tow rating of 7300 pounds, with the info you provided in your signature. The trailer GVWR is 7500 pounds. You are at or over your truck towing limit. I have a 2008 Sierra, 5.3L, ext cab with the same gear ration, and my rating is 7500 pounds, so you cannot be much more then that. Keep in mind that your tow rating is reduced with passengers and cargo in the truck. In my opinion, you are over the limit and this can be an accident waiting to happen. I would think that maybe this would be more important then changing out a hitch. Maybe changing out the truck or trailer should be a higher priority. Have a look at the bottom half of this link from the trailer web site: http://www.kz-rv.com/spree/specifications.html

RE: The most sapcious ext cab within 1/2 tons.

I have found the rear seat in the GMC Sierra is quite comfortable and I have never had any complaints about not enough leg and foot room.

RE: They're trying to talk me down to a 1/2 ton...

Drop Ford, go GM and enjoy that 2500 :B. Seriously though, that trailer is too large for a 1500 (F-150). Do what you know is right and get the 2500 (F-250).

Oil change on new truck

How many people do their first oil change earlier then usual to get of the "break in" oil? I know it is regular oil in there (5W30), but should it be changed out at 1000 km's as opposed to say 5000 km's, and then after this change, carry on with regular 5000 kn changes? Thanks.

RE: Half Ton Towing advice

That is encouraging. I just bought the same truck, but an extended cab and if you are towing a large trailer like that without problems, then I am okay. Mine is a 21 footer, and I think fully loaded up we are about 5300 pounds. Thanks.

AVG expriring soon

Can I just delete the current AVG and download it again since I am getting notices that it will expire soon? I am talking about the free edition. Anyone else do this on a regular basis? Thanks.

RE: Rude people in lower mainland B.C. - Is it always like that?

I live in Victoria, and I do hope that you enjoyed your stay in our beautiful city. As far as rude people, they are there and it is unfortunate that you encountered so many of them in a short period of time. Where is the courtesy? Where is the helpfulness that some people need when from out of town? A smile and a helping hand can go a long way. I have been over to the mainland several times, and I do find it a bit ruder then I am used to, but that is just me. Saying that, there are a lot of helpful and polite people, but it seems lately that it gets harder to find them. Congrats on the new rig, and I hope that you get a chance to come back to Victoria.

RE: Is this my Transmission Cooler?

Sure looks like it. Mine is located just left of the rad and about 2 inches in front of it. I would bet that is it. And as far as dealers, does he even know what a tranny cooler is? Cheers.
